A body made of ink, paper, words and thoughts. This installation gives form to the physical sensation of reading, where fragments of ideas on love, resonance and relationships gather. The emotional experience of reading often stands in contrast to the ordered structure of the book and the clarity of its presentation. While reading is usually a seated and physically still activity, the thoughts and emotions it sets in motion can be anything but static. The work seeks to give this inner movement a physical form.
Authors and thinkers such as Erich Fromm, bell hooks, Şeyda Kurt, Hartmut Rosa and Liv Strömquist meet, intersect and contrast. Paper sculptures emerge from these layered texts, translating their movement and tension into physical space. A video shows me moving through the installation — leaving the artwork behind to make space for something new to arise. The artwork was created and presented at RUD AIR.
My stay in Sweden took place as part of the FREE AWAY scholarship and was funded by the BMWKMS.
